Pleasant Long Weekend!
Saturday, March 8th, 2008This weekend happens to be a long weekend, a public holiday of Seclusion Day, celebrated by Balinese on 7th, followed by Saturday and Sunday! Every long weekend is eagerly waited, but makes it more special is that everything seems just work on the way that makes you pleased. Hehe.. This long weekend is somewhat pleasing, if not perfect. And what behind it ? Football!
The first reason, the saga of Liverpool FC ownership which has been over the headline of medias in the past week seems now finally come to the end with reports suggest that DIC, the investment arm of Dubai Government has agreed a deal to buy 49% share of co-owner George Gillet Jnr. Hopefully the deal can be concluded soon so that the future of my beloved club would be clear. I’m getting sick of the those two American clowns which have bring nothing but harm to the club. Getting rid one is just the first step. Hopefully, DIC will buy out Hicks too.. Still fume at Moores and Parry, why the hell they opted for the americans at the first place. All the lies, and washing dirty laundy publicly have brought instability within the club. Go Yanks!
Just as I was going out to watch Liverpool match on saturday night, an sms from Miun received, saying "Wasit Guoblok!". Hoho.. I knew that something was not coming her way. Forgot that there was FA Match. Swithching on TV, turning to AN TV. Tada… Manchester United 0, Portsmouth 1, and the clock was showing 10 minutes to the final time. Come on Pompey! Defend for your life. And they made it! Sorry to all MU fans, seems that the rivalry between MU and Liverpool is so fierce that I feel happy for their defeat. No hard feeling since I often get the same rebuke and jitter whenever Liverpool lose a match, particularly last month one at home to Barnsley. Straight away sms-ed Kiki with simple but deep and sharp message. "No treble huh ?" Hahaz…
The more pleasant thing came later on. Although I’m happy when our rivals lose, the main concern remains the performance of Liverpool. Although I had to stand for the entire 90-minute match due to overcrowded visitors at Aphrodite with a glass of lime juice in the hand, it was a great match in which The Reds again showed what they are capable of. The first 40 minutes were difficult as the Magpies defended really well, but the weird goal from Pennant followed by amazing partnership of Torres and Gerrard sealed the first half 2-0. El Ninooooooo…… You bring joy to the Liverpudlians. One more goal in second half from Gerrard to make it 3-0. Yihaa… A perfect result. My banker in office EPL Prediction Competition spots on. 60 points! Torres and Gerrard starred in the match which guarantees me a good point in the Fantasy Premier League!
Coming back at home at around 0.30 morning, browsing the internet for the match report and other stuffs while keeping Barnsley - Chelsea match on the background. Although FA Cup has always been known as the giant-killing show and Liverpool were knocked out previously at home, never have I predicted that Chelsea the million pound squad would suffer the same fate. Not when Terry, Ballack, Carvalho, Joe Cole, Wright Phillips play. They really fielded a strong first team, apart from the injured first choice goalkeeper Cech. But guess what! That is the beauty of football. Barnsley won the match 1-0 to progress to the semifinal. Hahaha… Chelsea is out! The pleasant things just keep continue. And now I’m cheering Barnsley to clinch the trophy. It would indeed comfort you a bit. You’re knocked down by the champion! That’s what I told my Interisti pals, to support Liverpool if Inter are knocked out later from the Champions League competition.
It’s somewhat absurd and truly amazing that football can affect your mood. It’s strange that you do "feel" and are passionate about the Football club which is competing thousand miles away, far far away from here. Somehow unexplainable, but that’s what we call fans. Some are even willing to spend their life saving to support the club, that’s what I learn from one of the article. While I’m not as passionate as them, I do spend money on club merchandises. When the club is winning, you’re happy. When they lose you’re sad. The adrenaline when watching the football match is exciting! Try to support one club and cling to it and I’m sure that you’ll feel the same! Mocking at rival fans is also a fun! Hehe.. Trust me. But be sure those are your close friends, otherwise… hmm.. you might get trouble!
Sunderland - Everton match to be played tonight, and it would mark a perfect weekend from Football point of view if they drop point there!
